Permaculture LAND project

Cecil Sharp House garden has been awarded status as a permaculture LAND project. A big thank you to everyone who came and helped over the last two and a half years! LAND projects (Learning And Network Demonstration) are a network of permaculture sites set up to show permaculture in practice to visitors and volunteers in a safe, accessible and inspiring way.

The new Cecil Sharp House permaculture LAND project has launched a series of educationals aimed at volunteers and permablitzers who want to find out more about permaculture and maintaining an edible, decorative and ecological garden in the heart of London. For more details see the Educationals webpage on this site.

Cecil Sharp House is the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society. Click here for more information about the LAND project garden

Permablitz lighting

Perma – from permaculture, a design system for sustainable living. A permablitz is organised to implement a permaculture design. Blitz – is the German word for a lightning strike. A permablitz involves the focused application of energy to install part of a permaculture system. When lightning strikes it heats the air around it making the nitrogen in the air absorbable in water. So the nitrogen dissolves in the rain, which fertilizes the ground where it falls. This is just what a permablitz is designed to do: create a fertile soil where plants can grow.
