Having a permablitz in your own garden
Having a Permablitz for your garden
Permablitzes spread through a network of reciprocity. Once you have been to a few permablitzes (usually three) you can have one for your own garden or rooftop/balcony.
A permablitz is organised around a permaculture design so your first step would be to have a permaculture design prepared for your garden. Contact us and we can put you in touch with a qualified volunteer permaculture designer who has completed a Permaculture Design Course and wants more design experience. Or you can pay to have a design done.
The design will take into account how much gardening experience you have and how much time you have to maintain your garden. It will also take into consideration the budget you have available for your garden makeover.
How do I go about hosting a Permablitz?
The final stage of the design process will be to agree the list of materials that you’ll need to gather for the day of the permablitz. You may be able to get some materials from Freecycle and other recycling organisations and you can also ask people coming to the permablitz if they have any plants and tools they could bring.
Once you have all the materials gathered we will publicise the permablitz and ask people to rsvp so we can keep track of numbers (many permablitzes are quickly filled). You can also publicise the permablitz in your locality and among your friends. We can also find someone who can facilitate for the day and someone to take photos and create a photo record of the permablitz.
On the day your main role is to be on hand to answer questions (don’t expect to be doing lots of work yourself, you’ll probably need to play more of an overall role), and to make sure everyone has hot drinks and food.
What happens after the Permablitz?
The design prepared for your garden will include details of ongoing maintenance that will be necessary and hopefully through hosting the permablitz you will meet people who become familiar with your garden and who will be able to give you advice and lend a hand if you need it.
