Join this Permablitz, organised in partnership between Calthorpe Community Garden and Permablitz London.
Our goal is to significantly improve the garden’s compost systems and deliver educational workshops about composting for the community.
This Permablitz will focus on a major upgrade to the composting system by building nine new compost bays using recycled pallets. This will double our current capacity and significantly improve the working flow of the existing system, allowing the garden to process much more garden waste efficiently.
The day's main tasks will include levelling the ground for the new bays, preparing and setting the pallets and tie beams, securing the structure into the ground, adding cladding to the exterior where needed, creating a slotted panel system at the front of the bays for easy access and installing informational signage.
Throughout the day, participants will receive hands-on instruction through mini-workshops on a variety of composting methods, including:
Hot Composting: Featuring examples already in use at the garden, such as the Ridan and the Hot Bin.
Cold Composting: Covering traditional garden waste bays, plastic bins, and leaf mould piles.
