Permaculture is an ethical design system, based on ecological principles, that creates sustainable and regenerative human habitats by following nature's patterns. This workshop will introduce permaculture by outlining the key ethics and principles and how they can be applied to a design process. We will look in particular at permaculture’s relevance to living in an urban context and how attendees can apply permaculture in their own lives.
Speaker: Susannah Hall
Susannah Hall is a designer, trainer and facilitator for Permablitz London teaching their Permaculture Design Certificate course. She also teaches adults and children about crafts, the wildlife we find in the city and designs edible gardens that work with rather than against nature.
Her balcony design with 50 different plants (see image), quails, a wormery and space for natural dyes won Camden in Bloom Best Mini-Garden 2021. She has also designed a forest garden for Forest Farm Peace Garden and co-designed (with Kayode Olafimihan) the food forest at Northwick Park Community Garden and the permaculture community gardens at Battersea Arts Centre and London’s Community Kitchen.
